As the end of the year madness is still in full speed, with even more deadlines, gifting, celebration menus, family reunions and travels, there is a sense of peacefulness that started to come through, more especially for the one that manage to escape, and start their travel to see family. While mountains are ready to receive their first load of visitors - and whether you are going to a very sporty resort, or a mundane one, there are today, a lot of amazing brands to look at - and that will help you achieve, the ski look without overheating, freezing or looking like you are trying.

I have been extremely lucky to be exposed to the mountains, and snow sports since a very young age with parents that, inevitably, gave me the competitive mindset I have today. I started skiing at a very young age, and quickly was racing. For that reason, among others, we have been going to the same resort for 4 generation now: Val d’Isere.

This picture was taken by my sister Margaux, for her school project. Capturing my parents, in our favorite element.

The resort is located a bit further away than most would like it to be (nb: 3 hours car drive from Geneva, similar time from Lyon and 30 minutes from Bourg Saint Maurice) - It is also colder than lots of visitors would like it to be, and the slopes are harder as well, than most would want them to be. And that’s the reason why I love this village, in the middle of Savoie, at the border with Italy, so much.

Located in the French Alps, Val d'Isère was originally a small farming village dating back to the 12th century. Its transformation into a ski resort began in the 1930s with the installation of ski lifts, but it truly gained fame after hosting events during the 1992 Winter Olympics. Today, Val d'Isère is part of the expansive Espace Killy ski area, one of the largest in the world, known for its world-class slopes and stunning alpine charm. Despite its modern reputation, the village has preserved its traditional character, making it a perfect blend of history and adventure.

My grand parents came for the first time in Val d’Isere in the year 1943 - 1944, and we have not stopped going since then. As a family now, we like to pay tribute to them and holding the legacy. Skiing is part of our dna as a family !

Ok enough with the background on why im so obsessed with mountain life and lets go into how I do it (not meaning that I hold the truth in any shape or form, but I think its nice to share how I do ski, since ive never really thought about it, until I was asked, and therefore, hope this article will be helpful to you - and if not, hope you enjoy it -

Do you think I should mention in this newsletter the amount of interest ski is getting this season, on a fashion pov ? Quite keen to explore Skim x Northface collaboration, which I must say is a really smart move *NOT AN AD* - Also really into what Varley has created recently with the apres ski, and under layers edit they have brought into their collection.

Dress up for ski

Shopping for sport is always a bit difficult, as it can lead to a very technical approach (as any sport shopping might do) or a fashion one, which then is really unpractical. Thanks to brands like Northface and Patagonia, Odlo and Falke you get practicality and aesthetic. Be aware you do not dress the same when you really ski and when you go to the lunch place ski. You also have to ask you the right questions when you do mountain life, as your days might all feel cosy, never are the same. Remember because you have to pack light, accessories are your allies, remember as well that snow is a fun time to dress up for.

Have you seen the Loro Piana ski capsule ? If not, you should. It is made for top performance on the slopes. It’s a collection of clothes and gear for outdoor living. The lineup includes skiwear and a handmade snowboard and the items use high-quality natural fibres, which are improved through Loro Piana’s dedication to textile innovation.
